CS TUYA MEETS SENIOR KDF LEADERSHIP

Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya today held a consultative meeting with the top Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) leadership, headed by Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri with view of having a better understanding of the KDF operations and current undertakings.

During the meeting, the CS was briefed on the various formations of the KDF as wells as force deployment within the country and beyond Kenya’s borders.

In her remarks, the CS underscored the need to remain proactive and ready owing to the complex security environment Kenya is operating in locally, regionally and globally.

“I recognize the critical role that this Ministry plays in ensuring the survival of our Republic and thus I shall offer my total support. I am aware that we are operating in very difficult economic times, but I shall seek greater cooperation with the National Government and National Treasury to prioritize funding of the defence sector,” said the CS.

Highlighting the importance of Whole-of-Government-Approach (WoGA), the CS noted that it is critical for the Ministry of Defence to work closely with parliament, other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for the mutual benefit of the people of Kenya.

In his welcoming remarks, General Kahariri pledged Kenya Defence Force’s support to Hon. Tuya to the achievement of her leadership roles and to ensure the Ministry effectively operationalizes its mandate. He added that the KDF and the Ministry as a whole will depend on the CS strategic guidance in achieving its mandate.

Present in the meeting were; Defence Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda, Service Commanders, General Officers and Heads of Departments from the Ministry.
