CS ADEN DUALE LEADS GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR KDF PPP HOUSING PROJECT

In a significant stride toward addressing housing challenges within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), a groundbreaking ceremony for the KDF Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Housing Project took place in Lanet, Nakuru. The ceremony, graced by Hon. Aden Duale, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Defence, and General Charles Kahariri, the Chief of Defence Forces, marked the commencement of an ambitious initiative aimed at providing modern and affordable housing for military personnel.

Hon. Aden Bare Duale, in his opening remarks, emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of the nation’s defenders.

“The Ministry acknowledges the pressing housing shortage faced by our servicemen and women. We are actively collaborating with the State Department of Housing to develop 25,000 institutional housing units. This initiative includes the establishment of new barracks in Marsabit and Turkana Counties, as well as the construction of housing units in various barracks nationwide,” he declared.

The KDF PPP Housing Project, a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and private sector partners, is set to deliver 3,069 housing units across five regions: Lanet (952), Gilgil (697), Nanyuki (788), Mariakani (152), and Nairobi (500).

General Charles Kahariri, speaking next, highlighted the strategic importance of the housing project.

“A secure and comfortable living environment is essential for the operational readiness and morale of our forces,” he stated.

“This project is a testament to our dedication to ensuring that those who protect our nation have a place they can proudly call home,” he added.

The ceremony also included the symbolic act of breaking the ground, with Hon. Duale and General Kahariri using an excavator to turn the first sod.

The event was also attended by the Permanent Secretary for defence Mr. Patrick Mariru, Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Tarus, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in-charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General David Ketter, Senior Officers, Officers, and Service Members.
