On 16 September 2024, the Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, led the inaugural Kenya Navy Forum and Presentations at the Kenya Navy Sports Complex. This landmark event was designed to promote leadership, strategic vision, and maritime security within the Kenya Navy (KN).
The forum aimed to provide a platform for dialogue, learning, and discussions among KN officers, focusing on building a more agile and responsive force capable of protecting Kenya’s maritime sovereignty. Several presentations and panel discussions were held on critical aspects of naval operations and defense strategies. Topics included Maritime Readiness Systems, modernizing Kenya’s defense doctrines to address contemporary threats, capacity-building opportunities within the Kenya Navy, and career progression in the Kenya Defence Forces.
In his address, Major General Otieno emphasized the importance of the event in shaping the future of the Kenya Navy. He highlighted a renewed commitment to excellence, professionalism, and fostering deeper collaboration and strategic planning within the force.
“The Kenya Navy has undergone significant modernization. With a clear focus on maritime security, training, and collaboration, the Kenya Navy is poised to strengthen its role within the region,” said Major General Otieno.
The event concluded with a strong sense of purpose and dedication to safeguarding Kenya’s maritime interests.
Also in attendance were Deputy Commander of the Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa; Commander of Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Abraham Biwott; Commander of Kenya Navy Fleet, Brigadier Mohamed Shemote; Commander of Kenya Navy Base Manda, Brigadier Patroba Wafula; Director of the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University – Kenya, Brigadier Peter Chelimo; Commandant of Defence Forces Memorial Hospital, Brigadier John Khaoya; Chief of Personnel at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Elijah Gatere, among other senior Kenya Navy officers.
