The Cabinet Chaired by the President, His Excellency Dr. William Ruto has approved the establishment of Peace Support Operations (PSOs) Fund which shall be critical in enabling the military deploy troops in peace support operations globally.
The approval came just two months after the National Assembly ratified the Public Finance Management (National Peace Support Operations Fund) Regulations, 2023 in July.
The PSOs Fund was birthed by the National Security Council with an aim of enabling the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) attain appropriate levels at the United Nations peace keeping capability and help in maintenance of Contingent Owned Equipment and other assets during such operations.
Kenya has been a key Troop Contributing Country (TCC) for decades and as an anchor State in the region, the Fund shall facilitate research and evaluation of activities related to peace keeping capability. PSOs Fund shall be managed by the Defence Council and administered by the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence.
The approval by the apex decision making organ in the country is a boost to the KDF in it’s efforts to promote peace, security and stability nationally, in the region and in the global arena.
