ZAMBIA DEFENCE FORCES (ZDF) BENCHMARKING VISIT TO KENYA

A delegation from the Zambia Defence Forces (ZDF) recently visited Defence Headquarters, the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K), and its Colleges to benchmark educational ecosystems and enhance mutual collaboration between the two militaries.

At Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, the delegation, led by Brigadier General Dani Eliya Banda, paid a courtesy call on the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Planning, Doctrine, and Training, Major General Fredrick Leuria. Maj Gen Leuria reaffirmed the strong ties between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and ZDF, emphasizing that the visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss common challenges.

The delegation then proceeded to the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), where they received a briefing on the Centre’s programs and governance. They also visited the National Defence College (NDC), both of which are Colleges of NDU-K.

Later, Brig Gen Banda and team visited NDU-K’s Seat in Lanet, Nakuru, where they were warmly received by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Research, Innovation, and Security Studies, Major General William Shume, on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General Gimson Mutai.

At NDU-K, the visitors were briefed on the university’s mandate, which focuses on training, capacity-building, research, and innovation in national security and strategy. Through its seven Colleges, NDU-K contributes to both national and global security while fostering sustainable development.

The visit provided the ZDF delegation with insights into KDF’s educational institutions and their role in achieving operational and strategic goals. Additionally, it facilitated knowledge exchange and strengthened partnerships in education and research within the defence and security sector.
