Wajir Air Base (WAB), in collaboration with various security agencies, successfully concluded its Safety and Security Week on 6th December 2024. Themed “Elevating Safety, Inspiring Confidence,” the event emphasized the commitment to safeguarding lives, protecting critical assets, and supporting operations at the shared Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) airport.
The closing ceremony, presided over by Brigadier Edward Banda, Commander of the 8th Brigade, on behalf of the Base Commander, Brigadier Stephen Sane, marked the end of a week filled with impactful activities.
In his closing remarks, Brigadier Banda commended all participants for their dedication and active involvement, underscoring the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture and fostering continuous collaboration among all stakeholders.
“Safety is not just a priority; it is a way of life. We must remain vigilant, proactive, and united in our efforts to protect lives, resources, and the integrity of our operations. Let this week inspire us to build a culture where safety and security guide everything we do,” said Brigadier Banda.
Throughout the week, participants from KDF, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Kenya Airport Police Unit, National Police Service, the Wajir Multi-Agency Centre, and Kenya Wildlife Service engaged in comprehensive lessons and briefings on a range of topics, including mental health and drug abuse, road safety, wildlife control, hazardous materials handling, fire drills, crash and rescue operations, passenger safety, and countering radicalization and violent extremism.
The event, which began on 2nd December 2024, highlighted the collective efforts of various agencies to enhance safety and security at Wajir Air Base. Brigadier Banda’s closing address emphasized the need to sustain these efforts and build confidence in the shared mission of safeguarding personnel and resources.
This successful initiative reaffirms Wajir Air Base’s commitment to elevating safety standards and fostering a culture of vigilance and preparedness.
