The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Muslim fraternity at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, held a special Ramadhan sermon on Monday, 3rd March 2025, joining Muslims worldwide in ushering in the Holy Month.
During the session, Deputy Commander Kenya Army (DAC) Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan highlighted Ramadhan as a time for spiritual reflection and an opportunity to strengthen faith and understanding of the Qur’an.
Emphasizing the significance of the Holy Month, KDF Principal Imam Colonel Abdulmaliq Rubeya urged all faithful to stay committed to the tenets of Islam. He encouraged them to embrace gratitude, spread kindness, and utilize the moment to pursue a clean spirit and draw closer to Allah and His teachings.
“I beseech you to pray for each other and embrace this period with a happy and clean heart. By doing so, you will be fulfilling your spiritual call to Allah,” he added.
Service Imam Kenya Army, Colonel Rajab Athman, underscored the importance of engaging in charitable acts as a means of freeing oneself from sin. He advised the faithful to frequently and comprehensively read the Qur’an, embracing its teachings with dedication.
In line with Islamic teachings of breaking fast with dates, Major General Mohamed Hassan, KDF Muslim leadership, and the Muslim Sub-branch distributed dates to those in attendance.
Ramadhan is observed as a time to exercise restraint and focus on spiritual growth. Muslims believe that the Holy Qur’an was sent down from heaven as guidance for humanity, a declaration of direction, and a means of salvation. Fasting, one of the pillars of Islam, is an act of piety undertaken to achieve God-consciousness.
