Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, took part in the “60 Trees a Day” challenge during his visit to the Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay. This initiative is part of a broader tree planting campaign launched in preparation for the Kenya Navy’s 60th Anniversary celebrations.
The “60 Trees a Day” initiative, which began on 14 October 2024, aims to plant 60 trees daily across all Kenya Navy units and formations leading up to the anniversary celebrations scheduled for December 2024. This effort aligns with the Government’s National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration program, which has set an ambitious target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
The program is designed to combat environmental issues such as deforestation, soil erosion, and desertification, while promoting reforestation and sustainable land use. The Kenya Navy’s contribution focuses on planting indigenous and decorative tree species, reflecting their commitment to preserving Kenya’s natural heritage.
By planting 60 trees each day, the Kenya Navy hopes to significantly contribute to the national reforestation goals and foster a culture of environmental stewardship within its ranks. Planting sites are strategically chosen to ensure the trees’ survival and long-term benefits, addressing climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and improving ecosystem health.
These efforts highlight the Kenya Navy’s engagement in national development, extending beyond its traditional role of maritime security. The tree planting initiative symbolizes the navy’s dedication to environmental conservation and preservation, marking an important contribution as they celebrate a milestone anniversary.
This project showcases the Kenya Navy’s readiness to address global challenges and its continued commitment to serving the Kenyan people in diverse ways.
