Today, 9th November 2022 Laikipia Air Base (LAB) in partnership with Kenya Water Towers, Mt Kenya Region launched a tree planting exercise at LAB, Nanyuki.
The Base in partnership with other agencies aims at planting over 30,000 trees within Nanyuki region during the short rains which are currently being experienced.
Speaking during the event, Base Commander LAB Brigadier Mohamud Farah thanked the Kenya Water Towers, Mt Kenya Region Coordinator Mr. Hussein Gedo for donating 15,230 tree seedlings and finding time to participate in the program.
The initiative is part of Kenya Defence Forces’ environmental soldier program and also in support of the President’s plan to grow 5 billion new trees as part of climate change mitigation agenda.
Also present during the event were LAB Commanding Officers, Officers, Base Sergeant Major, Service members and representatives from Kenya Water Towers.
