As part of ongoing efforts to support the local community living near Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay (KNB Manda Bay), the Commander KNB Manda, Brigadier Lazarus Wafula, visited the Magogoni area on 23 April 2025 for an engagement with bodaboda operators.
The objective of the visit was to strengthen relations between the base and the local transport community, foster mutual understanding, and explore areas of collaboration for sustainable development.
During his address, Brigadier Wafula commended the bodaboda operators for their hard work and dedication. He encouraged them to formally register themselves and consider initiating income-generating projects to ensure long-term financial stability and community growth. He also advised the operators to steer clear of drug use and abuse, drug trafficking, and radicalization. Stressing the importance of safety, he urged them to observe road safety measures to protect themselves and their passengers.
On behalf of KNB Manda Bay, Brigadier Wafula also donated reflector jackets to the bodaboda operators, promoting road safety and visibility, highlighting the proactive approach to supporting the welfare of local communities and addressing practical challenges faced by everyday service providers.
In response, the Magogoni Bodaboda Chairman, Mr. Justin Wanjohi Muturi, expressed his gratitude for the Commander’s visit and commended the initiative as a positive step toward community empowerment. He affirmed that the valuable guidance shared would be taken seriously and implemented. Mr. Muturi also emphasized the significance of the initiative in promoting unity, discipline, and economic resilience within the bodaboda sector.
This engagement underscores the Kenya Navy’s unwavering commitment to strengthening relationships with neighbouring communities and supporting local development initiatives.
