STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY BONDS

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops stationed at Kokenye Military Camp, Turkana County, marked the New Year with a humanitarian civil assistance initiative for the local community. The sub-unit visited Nabuin Primary School in Loima Sub-County, engaging in activities aimed at fostering goodwill and strengthening relationships with residents.

A highlight of the day was a friendly football match between the KDF team and Nabuin Football Club, a group of local youths. The spirited game ended in a 2-2 draw, showcasing talent and camaraderie.

In addition to the match, the sub-unit’s medical team, led by Second Lieutenant Emmanuel Rono, provided medical assistance and health education to over 200 attendees. Lieutenant Rono emphasized the importance of such initiatives and assured residents that similar campaigns would be organized throughout the year in collaboration with the County Health Ministry to enhance public health.

Lieutenant Martin Gatobu praised the youths for their performance in the match and encouraged them to continue pursuing sports in their free time. He highlighted the physical and psychological benefits of staying active while noting that such engagements help deter negative activities like banditry and livestock rustling.

The KDF reaffirmed their commitment to cultivating strong relationships with local communities and security stakeholders in Turkana County and neighboring regions. These efforts aim to foster peaceful coexistence and contribute to the overall stability and well-being of the area.
