On November 20, 2024, Brigadier Abraham Biwot, Commander Kenya Navy Base in Mtongwe, presided over the graduation of the Senior Leadership Course (SLC) 02 for the 2024/2025 Financial Year, held at 15 Kenya Rifles (15KR) in Mariakani. The course aimed to equip participants with essential skills in leadership, command, and management to prepare them for roles in the Kenya Navy and broader Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The 10-week course included a range of modules, from practical exercises to personnel administration, logistical support, and life skills, addressing the challenges faced by service members in various deployments.
During his address, Brigadier Biwot praised the participants for their resilience and commitment. He emphasized that the course’s skills would enhance both individual performance and the operational efficiency of the Kenya Navy.
“Your success as leaders will be measured not by how much you’ve learned but by how effectively you apply it as fully qualified Senior Non-Commissioned Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers,” he said.
Brigadier Biwot also emphasized the need for continuous professional development to maintain an adaptive force, highlighting the critical role of leadership in military operations.
“This training has prepared you for greater responsibilities by enhancing your leadership and management skills. I hope it has sparked a desire to continue studying the emerging challenges in leadership,” he added.
Colonel Benson Karuimbo, Commandant of the Kenya Navy Training College, urged the graduates to uphold discipline, professionalism, and excellence, serving as examples of strong leadership. He reminded them of the dynamic nature of modern warfare, driven by technological advancements, and encouraged them to promote best practices in their commands.
