SENIOR JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE VISITS KENYA NAVY

Commandant Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC), Major General Eric Kinuthia, on 11 March 2025, led Senior Joint Command and Staff Course students and Staff Officers for a familiarization tour at Kenya Navy Base (KNB), Mtongwe and Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) Mombasa.

The visit aimed at familiarizing the students with the organization, roles and capabilities of Kenya Navy and KSL, deepening their understanding of national defence strategies and the roles played by Kenya Navy in protecting the sovereignty of Kenya’s territorial waters.

Upon arrival, the delegation paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, at the Kenya Navy headquarters. Brigadier Kiswaa took them through a comprehensive briefing on the Kenya Navy’s operational capabilities, training methodologies, available vessels, training facilities, and Kenya Navy’s role in maritime security operations.

The delegation also visited Kenya Naval Training College and was introduced to the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS). The students were given a demonstration of how the FMBS operates offering a highly realistic, scenario-based training that replicates real-world maritime operations, allowing Kenya Navy sailors to practice navigating vessels and responding to complex maritime situations in a controlled, safe environment.

One of the highlights of the visit was a thrilling sea ride aboard the Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) JASIRI, at the Kenya Navy Fleet. The delegation observed a series of gun exercise demonstrations where the Kenya Navy showcased its readiness to respond swiftly and effectively to maritime threats, demonstrating its advanced capabilities in naval defence and combat operations.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL), where the delegation was briefed on the organization and roles of the shipyard, which include construction, repair, maintenance, and refit of ships and maritime vessels.

Present during the visit were Chief of Naval Medical Services, Brigadier (Dr) Justino Muinde, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Colonel Marcella Aritho, Seniors Officers, Officers and Service Members.
