ROAD SAFETY TRAINING COMMENCES IN MANDA

Commander Operation Amani Boni Colonel Joel Tanui today, 28 March 2023, presided over the official opening of a two-day workshop on road safety for Kenya Defence Forces drivers organized by the Kenya Army Corps of Transport at Manda Base, Lamu County.

The theme of this year’s training is, `leave earlier, drive slower, live longer’ and incorporates instructors from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Military Police, the Medical Battalion, and other civilian firms in the transport industry.

The Commander was received by Commandant School of Transport Major Felix Odiwa who pointed out that the training is meant to raise awareness on road safety with emphasis on preventive measures to combat Road Traffic Accidents involving KDF vehicles and other road users. “This training is aimed at appraising drivers on defensive driving techniques and other smart road user characteristics including effective vehicle servicing and maintenance,” he said.

Colonel Tanui further noted that the training is critical at a time when the number of accidents reported countrywide is high and that mitigative measures such as the training will aid in its reduction. “It is possible to avoid accidents by developing the right attitude about driving, understanding your vehicle in depth, and avoiding the use of cellphones while driving,” he emphasized.

The training is expected to entrench professionalism in the way Motor Transport Units are run in KDF as well as raise the level of road safety awareness among service drivers.
