REPRIEVE FOR CHEMOLIGOT LEARNERS AND COMMUNITY AS KDF SINKS BOREHOLE

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Engineers Brigade has started sinking a borehole at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Chemoligot to address the persistent water shortage affecting both the institution and the surrounding community.

This initiative follows a directive from His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto in August 2024 during the official opening of the college.

Tiaty East and West sub-counties are currently experiencing a severe dry season, exacerbating water scarcity. This shortage has negatively impacted academic attendance, enrolment, and local commercial activities.

Mr. Timothy Kiptoo, the Principal of KMTC Chemoligot, highlighted that learners, especially female students, have faced great difficulty, often walking long distances through unfamiliar terrain to fetch water, which is often unsafe for use.

“The situation has been dire; learners have at times abandoned classes to search for water,” he noted.

KMTC board member Bishop Yusuf Losute emphasized that the lack of water has affected school enrolment in the region, with many parents opting to migrate with their children in search of water. This has led some schools to close temporarily. He expressed his gratitude for the positive impact the borehole will have on the wider community, stating,

“We are very grateful for this gesture of brotherhood and unity that the KDF has shown,” said the Bishop.

The borehole is expected to alleviate water challenges, providing relief to the institution and the surrounding community.
