NEW PILOT INSTRUCTORS BOLSTER CAPACITY BUILDING IN KENYA’S AIR FORCE

Kenya Air Force (KAF) aviation capabilities have been enhanced by the recent graduation of two officers, Major Clifford Mutiria and Captain Sharo Ngeywo, as Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs). They earned their qualifications from the Royal Air Force (RAF) after completing a rigorous 9-month program at Number 3 Flying Training School, RAF Cranwell.

The specialized training was conducted by the Central Flying School in collaboration with 57 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. It focused not only on refining flying skills but also on mastering the art of teaching those skills to new pilots.

Major Clifford Mutiria shared his experience, praising the excellence of the RAF’s pilot training.
“Training at the RAF was intense, the level of discipline and precision they instill is of excellent quality. Every maneuver, every decision is a lesson in excellence,” he said.
Captain Sharo Ngeywo highlighted the value of the mindset instilled by their UK counterparts.

“The 9 months at RAF Cranwell taught me how to teach as much as how to fly. The British pilots showed us that flying is not just about skill, but about the mindset and approach you bring into the cockpit,” he said.

Their expertise will be a valuable addition to the Kenya Air Force, demonstrating the benefits of international collaboration in strengthening aviation expertise.
