The Military Wives Association of Kenya (MWAK) recently commemorated World Orphans Day, honoring orphans worldwide and advocating for improved quality of life for them. Events were held at seven Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) bases across the country, including locations in Eldoret, Nairobi, Nakuru, Isiolo, Nanyuki, Mombasa, and, for the first time, Busia County.
Lang’ata Garrison in Nairobi, Colonel Kasaine Koruta welcomed KDF dependents at Ulinzi Sports Complex on behalf of the Garrison Commander. He praised the strong turnout and commended MWAK’s ongoing commitment to supporting KDF dependents through mentorship, health initiatives, donations, and educational sponsorships.
MWAK Chairperson Mrs. Grace Kahariri’s message, delivered by Mrs. Regina Mulwa, leader of Kenya Defence Forces Widows and Orphans (KeDWO), emphasized the strength and resilience of orphans and widows, while thanking KeDWO for its support programs. Mrs. Kahariri invited participants to share ideas on how orphans can be further supported.
As Kenya faces increasing numbers of widows and orphans due to ongoing global conflicts, MWAK is collaborating with the KDF Compensation and Welfare Department to ensure that families of fallen soldiers are supported.
The event featured activities such as games, teamwork exercises, music, and motivational sessions led by therapists and religious leaders, creating a day of unity and encouragement for all involved.
