On 24 April 2025, the Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), Major General Khar Diouf, paid a visit to the Kenyan Signal Company 3 (KENSIG 3) troops stationed at the Lava Site, MONUSCO Force Headquarters in Goma.
He was received by the Officer Commanding KENSIG 3, Major Stephen Otieno, who led him through a troop-in-line inspection and presented him with a comprehensive brief on the Company’s organizational structure and operational responsibilities.
In his remarks, Major Otieno expressed appreciation for the continued support from MONUSCO Force Headquarters, which has enabled the signal Company to fulfill its mission effectively. He emphasized the Company’s critical role in ensuring reliable communications and maintaining security at the Lava Site during recent complex operations.
Addressing the troops, Major General Diouf commended KENSIG 3 for their professionalism and resilience in the face of recent challenges, particularly during the clashes in Eastern DRC.
“I want to commend the outstanding performance of your detachment. You have carried out your duties under demanding conditions with unwavering dedication,” he stated. “During the recent crisis in Goma, your work was exemplary. You ensured our communication systems remained functional across sectors and departments, making a significant difference to our operations.”
He also recognized the efforts of Captain Simon Wateya, the Base Defence Platoon Commander, for his team’s vital contribution in securing the Lava Site and its critical infrastructure.
“Beyond your technical roles, your platoon’s active participation in securing the base has not gone unnoticed. Your night and early dawn perimeter patrols were instrumental in maintaining the safety of the camp,” Major General Diouf noted.
The KDF troops continue to work hand in hand with the DRC Security Forces as well as the citizenry and their counterparts within MONUSCO in the joint pursuit of peace in the country.
