Staff from Moi Forces Academy Secondary Division Nairobi visited Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe on 01 April 2025 for a familiarization tour.
The visit aimed at enhancing their understanding of maritime operations and the critical role Kenya Navy plays in safeguarding Kenya’s maritime sovereignty.
The visit provided first-hand exposure to naval operations, reinforcing their ability to integrate real-world applications into their teaching by bridging the gap between theoretical instruction and practical experience. The tour enriched their capacity to instil a deeper appreciation for maritime security among their students.
During their visit, the delegation visited the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC) and was introduced to the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS). This hands-on experience with advanced naval simulations allowed the educators to grasp the complexities of naval operations, offering valuable insights to enhance their teaching.
Led by Major Anastacia Mungai from Kenya Air Force Headquarters, the delegation visited the Kenya Navy Fleet and paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Colonel Marcella Aritho. During the meeting, they were briefed on KNF’s capabilities in maritime combat, including its vessels, advanced technologies, and personnel ready to tackle complex maritime threats.
Following the briefing, the delegation boarded the Kenya Navy Ship SHUJAA, where they received a detailed briefing on the ship’s operational capabilities and its essential role in ensuring maritime security.
This collaboration underscored the vital role of educators in shaping a security-conscious society. By integrating their newfound knowledge into classroom discussions, they are better equipped to inspire and prepare students for careers in defence and maritime industries, fostering a well-informed generation with a strong appreciation for national security.
