MOI AIR BASE SHOWCASES TEAM SPIRIT AT THE 2024 NAIROBI CITY MARATHON AS KDF ELITE ATHLETES SHINE

On a day when KDF elite athletes achieved greatness with podium presence for two of them, a team of more than 100 airmen and women from Moi Air Base (MAB) joined scores of runners at the 2024 edition of Nairobi City Marathon which was held on 8th September 2024. The team participated in the 6 km race.

In the elite category, KDF delivered remarkable performance. In the men’s 21 km race, Corporal Wilson Too from Kahawa Garrison secured second place with a time of 1:01:14. In the women’s 21 km category, Senior Private Marion Kibor also from Kahawa Garrison claimed first place with a time of 1:08:55.

The MAB team, which participates in the marathon annually was this year led by the Colonel in charge of Logistics Command at Kenya Air Force (KAF) Headquarters, Colonel Benedetta Kikechi, and MAB Commanding Officer, Headquarter Wing, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Otiso. Participation in the marathon marks a significant step towards fostering community engagement and promoting fitness among personnel.

As the team maintained a steady pace, moving through the city’s winding streets crowds cheered them on and even joined the soldiers in enjoying the race. The event not only became a celebration of athleticism but also team and national pride.

In her remarks at the event, Colonel Kikechi expressed her pride in her team’s performance.

“Today, we showed that our strength is not only in defending the Kenya’s skies but also in joining fellow Kenyans as we run alongside one another. This should always remind us, of our mandate of defending and protecting our country and its people. We hope to continue engaging in community sports and events such as this one,” stated Col Kikechi.

Also speaking after the event, Lt Col Otiso emphasized the importance of participating in community events that promote talent development.

“Participating in the marathon is more than just a race for us. It is a chance to connect with the community, showcase our commitment to physical fitness, and inspire others,” stated the Commanding Officer.
