MOD EMERGES WINNER AT FiRe AWARDS

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been recognized as the top performer among all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for its accountability and prudent use of resources at this year’s Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards.

The Ministry secured first place in the MDAs Reporting under the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) Cash category, improving from last year’s second position in the same category.

This year’s FiRe Awards, themed “Championing Effective Sustainability Reporting through Technology and Innovation to Enhance Transparency”, saw over 1,100 entries, a 20% increase from the previous year’s 856 entries.
The MoD delegation, led by Secretary of Administration Mr. Isaac Masinde, represented Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru. Other members of the delegation included Head of the Accounting Unit Ms. Electina Wanyonyi, Senior Chief Finance Officer Mr. Joseph Mutuma, and various Heads of Department, both military and civilian.

The FiRe Awards aim to promote accountability, transparency, and integrity in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other disclosures related to governance, social, and environmental reporting. The award is the most prestigious in East Africa for financial reporting, with joint promoters including the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), the Public Sector Accounting Standard Board of Kenya (PSASB), the Capital Markets Authority, Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE), and the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA).
