KENYA MILITARY ACADEMY AND 3 KENYA RIFLES TURN NAKURU GREEN

Kenya Military Academy (KMA) instructors and cadets on Saturday, 14th May 2022 took part in a tree planting exercise within the Lanet military cantonment.

The exercise saw over 10,000 seedlings of assorted species of trees planted.

Officer Commanding Cadets, Major Leonard Kanyaru emphasized on the need to conserve the environment as anchored in the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) Environmental Soldier Program in an effort to complement the Government’s plan to achieve 10% forest cover by the end of 2022.

The cadets were encouraged to not only plant trees but also adopt a tree to ensure 100% survival.

The tree planting site was christened KMA 10 corner as one way to leave a conservation mark during the cadets’ training time at the academy.

The academy uses such programs for Character Development among the cadets as it seeks to develop future military leaders who are conscious of environmental conservation.

In the spirit of environmental conservation, 3 Kenya Rifles (3KR) led by their Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Eric Lovega, in partnership with Kenya Forest Service, on 11th May planted over 8,000 indigenous species of trees at Nuswet in Njoro, Nakuru County.
