KENYA DEFENCE FORCES HOLDS SOLEMN REQUIEM MASS FOR POPE FRANCIS

On 24 April 2025, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Catholic faithful commemorated the life and legacy of the late Holy Father Pope Francis with a solemn requiem mass at St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

The requiem mass was presided over by the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, who led the faithful in prayer and reflection, celebrating the life of a pontiff whose humility, compassion, and tireless pursuit of peace touched lives across the globe.

In his homily, Bishop Wallace reflected on Pope Francis’s unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and dignity of every human being. He highlighted the pope’s advocacy for the marginalized and his call for unity in the face of global challenges.

The Bishop paid tribute to Pope’s Francis unwavering stand for the poor and oppressed, his outspoken advocacy for peace and environmental stewardship, and his deep emphasis on interfaith dialogue.

“His Holiness Pope Francis stood not only as the Vicar of Christ but as a global voice for the voiceless. In him, we saw a shepherd who walked among his flock – tender, courageous and always faithful,” the Bishop said.

The mass attended by senior military officers, chaplains, officers, service members, and civilian personnel was marked by prayers, hymns, and moments of reflection.

Pope Francis died at the age of 88 and will be buried on Saturday, 26 April 2025 at St. Mary Major Basillica.

Eternal rest grant unto Pope Francis, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
