On Friday, 15 November 2024, at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, Major General (Maj Gen) Bernard Waliaula, Director General of Defence National Security Industries (DG DNSI), officially flagged off the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) contingent set to participate in the second edition of the Africa Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
Representing the Chief of the Defence Forces, Maj Gen Waliaula encouraged the team to uphold KDF’s high standards of discipline, integrity, and sportsmanship.
“This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate Kenya’s standing as a sports powerhouse and to strengthen military diplomacy. The KDF and the entire nation are counting on you to represent us with pride,” he remarked, urging them to be goodwill ambassadors throughout the competition.
Maj Gen Waliaula emphasised that the large contingent reflected KDF’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing talent—a sentiment that Chief de mission Brigadier Mathew Lenamunai echoed. Brigadier Elijah Gatere, Chief of Personnel at Defence Headquarters, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, praising their rigorous preparation and acknowledging the Chief of the Defence Forces for his continued support.
The Africa Military Games, running from 18 to 30 November 2024, will feature a formidable KDF team of 87 athletes competing in athletics, shooting, judo, boxing, kickboxing, volleyball, and golf under the theme, “Enhancing military cooperation in Africa through sport.”
