KENYA DEFENCE FORCES AIDS IN BUILDING DEMOLITION IN MOMBASA

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, participated in the demolition of an eleven-storey building in Mombasa County on 09 April 2025.

The demolition was part of a coordinated operation designed to address the structural instability of the building, which had become a serious risk to both the immediate surroundings and the broader community.

In line with its secondary constitutional mandate to support civil authorities during emergencies and in times of national need, the KDF provided expert assistance in conducting a controlled explosive demolition. The operation was planned and executed to ensure the safety of both personnel on the ground and residents in the vicinity.

Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, praised the spirit of cooperation between the civil authorities and the KDF. He noted that the operation demonstrated the value of inter-agency collaboration in addressing critical public safety concerns.

“This operation is a testament to what can be achieved when our forces and civil authorities work together. I commend the unwavering commitment of all involved; your cooperation has not only enhanced public safety but strengthened the bonds that hold this nation secure,” said Major General Otieno.

Commander Mariakani Garrison, Brigadier Joseph Mokwena, commended the professionalism and dedication of the KDF personnel involved in the mission. He also expressed appreciation to the Mombasa County Government for its logistical support and commitment to ensuring the safe execution of the task.

Mombasa County Governor, H.E Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, thanked the KDF for their selfless service and for stepping in to protect the lives and property of Mombasa residents. He also lauded the residents for their cooperation and patience during the preparatory and execution phases of the demolition.

The successful completion of the demolition stands as a clear demonstration of KDF’s unwavering commitment to national service beyond defence roles. By working hand in hand with civil authorities, KDF reinforced its vital role in safeguarding public safety during emergencies.
