KDF TROOPS IN DRC FOSTER PEACE THROUGH SPORTS

On 20 November 2024, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) hosted a friendly football match with Matembo Sports FC from Beni town, Eastern DRC. The match, held at the Mavivi Kenya Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF) grounds, ended in an exciting 4-4 draw and was part of KDF’s ongoing Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) efforts to build stronger connections with the local community.

Following the game, KDF troops shared lunch with the visiting team, reflecting on the event’s significance for peace and unity. Mr. Jacques Manoku, Chief of Matembo Location, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity, describing the match as a meaningful step toward peace.

“The match we have played today is a symbol of love not only between our two teams but also between our two nations. We should continue to do more of this in the future,” he said.

Major Barring Saratuki, Officer Commanding KENQRF 4, thanked Mr. Manoku and the team for their participation, emphasizing KDF’s commitment to community engagement.
“We are committed to ensuring that we work closely with you, our brothers and sisters, and whenever opportunities arise, we will always engage in joint activities such as sports and community outreach,” Major Saratuki stated.

The friendly match highlights the power of sports as a tool for unity and peace-building between communities and nations.
