Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel claimed multiple titles on the final day of the 86th edition of the Kenya Open Fullbore Championship, held at the Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki.
The competition attracted 64 of the best shooters from the Kenya Defence Forces Rifle Association, National Police Service, National Intelligence Service, Kenya Regiment Rifle Club, and the British Royal Air Force. The event aimed to promote efficiency and foster proficiency in marksmanship, with shooting challenges at distances ranging from 300 to 900 meters.
The action-packed event saw participants compete for several prestigious titles, including the McCallum Cup, the Standard Newspaper Cup, the Bob Morgan Memorial Cup, the Stuart Wortley Cup, the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup, and the Short Range Aggregate Cup, along with the Bob Morgan and Drummond Trophy. Shooters had 45 seconds to execute essential steps in long-range shooting, including determining accurate wind and mirage holds, while making adjustments for wind conditions.
In the Standard Newspaper Cup, Stuart Wortley Cup, and Short Range Aggregate Cup, Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema overcame tough opposition to emerge victorious in Class XI. He also earned a bronze medal in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup.
Other standout performers included Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo, who won a silver medal in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup, and Senior Private Eston Mwangi, Sergeant Michael Mwangi, Sergeant Francis Jillo, and Staff Sergeant Paul Munene. Additionally, Staff Sergeant Joyce Chebii and Staff Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo were recognized as the overall best female shooters of the tournament.
A total of ten KDF personnel were selected to represent Kenya at the upcoming Bisley competition in the United Kingdom later this year.
