KDF BOXERS AND SHOOTERS SHINE IN ABUJA

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) athletes have continued to excel at the Africa Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria. On Friday, November 22, 2024, KDF boxers and shooters demonstrated outstanding performances in their respective events.

In boxing, KDF fighters claimed two wins in the semi-finals held at the Velodrome Arena. Corporal Kelvin Maina faced Private Chala Azizi from Tanzania in a thrilling East African derby in the 51kg flyweight category. Maina impressed the crowd with his powerful punches and tactical skills, dominating his opponent over three rounds.

In another standout performance, Senior Private Denis Muthama defeated L/Cpl Hilary Mpaguri of the Ghana Armed Forces. The intense fight was briefly paused in the second round after Mpaguri took a heavy hit. Muthama’s dominance secured him a unanimous victory. Both Kenyan boxers have advanced to the finals, scheduled for Monday, November 25, 2024.

In shooting, the KDF ladies’ team also achieved a remarkable result in the first range competition at Keffi. Competing in both pistol standard and rapid-firing events, the Kenyan team claimed the silver medal, coming in second to Nigeria, with Algeria taking bronze. The team’s impressive finish signals strong prospects for Kenya in the ongoing competition, which will wrap up on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Kenya’s stellar performances in both boxing and shooting showcase the skill and commitment of KDF athletes as they represent their country on the continental stage.
