Kahawa Garrison commemorated World Cancer Awareness Month on October 22, 2024, with an event organized by the Kahawa Garrison Level II Hospital to raise awareness about cancer. This year’s theme, “No One Should Face Cancer Alone,” highlighted the importance of self-examination, early detection, timely diagnosis, preventive measures, comprehensive treatment, and ongoing support for cancer patients and survivors.
The event was presided over by Col. Said Katera, Commandant of the Defence Forces Constabulary, who emphasized the critical role of early screening in managing cancer and its effects. He urged personnel to stay informed about various types of cancer, which remain a leading cause of death worldwide.
Lt. Col. Maureen Malungu, Senior Medical Administrator at Kahawa Garrison Level II Hospital, echoed Col. Katera’s sentiments and encouraged personnel to utilize KDF health facilities for regular screenings to prevent all forms of cancer.
Kahawa Garrison Comp Commandant Col. Zainab Golo commended the significant turnout of KDF personnel, Ministry of Defence civilian staff, and families for cancer screening. She attributed the increased attendance to extensive cancer awareness campaigns by the KDF.
The event was attended by Formation Commanders, officers, service members, and their families, fostering a spirit of community and support in the fight against cancer.
