On 20 November 2024, participants from the Junior Joint Command and Staff Course (JJCSC) 099/24, based at the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) in Karen, paid an official visit to the Kenya Navy. The team, led by Senior Instructor Colonel Joseph Kariara, was welcomed by Brigadier Abraham Biwot, Commander of the Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe.
Brigadier Biwot highlighted the significance of such interactions in fostering collaboration and enhancing effectiveness in joint military operations.
The visit featured comprehensive briefings on the Kenya Navy’s mission, responsibilities, and achievements in protecting the nation’s territorial waters. Lieutenant Colonel Simon Mbuya, Commanding Officer of the Maritime Surveillance Squadron (MARSS), provided insights into MARSS’s critical role in maritime security through surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The group toured the Kenya Naval Training College, where they observed the Full Bridge Mission Simulator—a crucial tool for training naval officers and sailors in ship navigation and operational decision-making. The visit also included a stop at Kenya Shipyard Limited (KSL), where participants learned about KSL’s capabilities in vessel construction and maintenance, underscoring its role in supporting both naval and civilian maritime sectors.
The tour concluded with a visit to the Kenya Navy Fleet, where participants experienced a short sea ride aboard Kenya Navy Ship SHUPAVU, gaining valuable exposure to naval operations and the realities of life at sea.
