GENERAL KAHARIRI VISITS KENYA NAVY

The chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri conducted a two-day visit to Kenya Navy Base (KNB), Mtongwe and KNB Manda Bay as part of his familiarization tour to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Units and Formations.

The visit underscored the strategic importance of Kenya Navy in safeguarding Kenya’s maritime interests as well as enhancing operational readiness and morale of Kenya Navy service personnel.

Upon arrival, the CDF was received by Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno and accorded a guard of honour mounted by Kenya Navy personnel.

He laid a wreath at the Kenya Navy Headquarters and KNB Manda Bay monuments to honor the fallen heroes as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave men and women of Kenya Navy in the line of duty.

The CDF was briefed on the security situation, operations, personnel and logistics matters.

In his speech to Kenya Navy Officers and Service Members , General Kahariri assured them of his continued support in training, equipment modernization and welfare programs.

He implored the achievements of the Kenya Navy citing successful maritime security operations conducted recently and in the past emphasizing the critical role they play in national security and regional stability.

He thanked the Officers and service Members for their efforts and good work in defending Kenya’s maritime borders encouraging them to remain resilient and innovative in their areas of deloyment.

“We should endeavour to be professional and lay the right ground work to support the institutions in place,” said the CDF.

General Kahariri urged Kenya Navy Officers and Service Members to be on the front line on matters environmental security by planting trees which is in line with the National tree planting campaign.

The CDF also visited the Kenya Shipyards Limited where he chaired the 12th Kenya Shipyards Limited Board of Directors meeting and welcomed the new members to the board before being acquainted with the current operations at the shipyard.

The CDF was also hosted onboard Kenya Navy Ship Jasiri and sailied to KNB Manda Bay.

This was the first official visit by General Kahariri to the Kenya Navy since his appointment as the CDF.
