The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Francis Ogolla, led Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops in observing the National tree planting day in 78 Tank Battalion in Isiolo county.
The exercise saw a total of 10,000 indigenous seedlings being planted and was in line with the government’s vision of combating climate change by planting 15 billion trees by 2032, a move set to increase the forest cover in the country.
The area Governor together with the CDF, Isiolo County leadership, Kenya Forest and Kenya Wildlife Service, all joined forces with the locals in the tree planting drive in which the tree seedlings comprised of Muringa, Neem tree and Mukau, all of which were well suited to the region’s climate.
During his address to the troops, General Ogolla emphasised on the primary role of the military of defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial borders against any aggression and further urged them to continue contributing to the country’s goal to assist in alleviating the adverse weather conditions.
