The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) fraternity, family and friends gathered in Nyakach Bugo Sub-County, Kisumu County, for the burial of the late retired Defence Forces Sergeant Major (DFSM) Warrant Officer Class I Elijah Aspro Koranga.
The ceremony honoured his distinguished 41-year military career marked by unwavering dedication, stellar leadership and service to the nation.
In a message of condolence delivered to the family by the Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Tarus on behalf of the Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the KDF family eulogised DFSM Koranga as a mentor and a role model whose leadership shaped generations of Service Members.
“DFSM Koranga’s contributions to the force, his commitment to duty and his exemplary conduct will forever be remembered and cherished. We sincerely appreciate his service and honour his sacrifice,” the message read in part.
DFSM Koranga, who was enlisted in 1984 rose through the ranks culminating in senior leadership appointments including Academy Sergeant Major (ASM) at the Kenya Military Academy and Kenya Army Sergent Major (ASM) before his appointment as the DFSM in April 2019, a position he held till his retirement on 04 October 2024.
His commitment to duty earned him several prestigious decorations including the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Further, his passion for sports was instrumental in moulding KDF’s sports teams contributing to their excellence at both the national and international competitions.
The family expressed appreciation for the support from the KDF, former colleagues and friends during the time of the untimely loss and grief.
