DHQ CATHOLIC CHURCH OBSERVES ASH WEDNESDAY

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) fraternity from St Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, joined the Catholic community around the world in observing Ash Wednesday, a day that marks the start of Lent.

The mass was led by the Bishop of the Military Ordinate of Kenya, Rt Rev Wallace Ng’ang’a who encouraged the faithful to observe the 40 days with utmost humility, repentance and care for one another as an expression of love and kindness for mankind with utmost divine mercy which the church calls on them to employ during the entire Lent season.

“This is a season for penance. We are reminded that from dust we came and to dust we shall return. We should therefore use this opportunity to return to God, help each other, promote peace and advocate for positive changes,” he said.

Later, Bishop Ng’ang’a   unveiled the Lenten Campaign 2025, Themed “The Kenya we desire,” with 5 thematic areas which are; Family Unity, Corruption and need for accountability, Youth and their potential as the untapped resource of our nation, Holistic education and Environmental stewardship, that will help shape the desires for our country.

This annual commemoration prepares the Christians for the passion of Christ and the celebration of His Resurrection. This is done through prayers, repentance, giving alms and self-denial.
