Deputy Army Commander Major General David Tarus handed the Kenyan flag to the Contingent representing the country in the East Africa Community (EAC) Command Post Exercise (CPX) at Ulinzi Sports Complex – Lang’ata. The exercise codenamed ‘ _Ushirikiano Imara Exercise 2023_ ‘, will be held in Kigali, Rwanda. The exercise is being conducted pursuant to the EAC Protocol on Cooperation in Defence Affairs and EAC that aims at bringing together EAC Partner States’ militaries and other Civilian Stakeholders to plan and conduct integrated missions.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Major General Tarus urged the Kenyan team to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, discipline in order to achieve the set out goals of the exercise.
“As you travel out of the country, remember all eyes will be on how you will conduct yourselves. We also expect quality output that reflects positively to what KDF and Kenya as a country stands for. We expect you to embrace ‘esprit de corps’ with your counterparts from other countries,” said Major General Tarus.
The Kenyan contingent Chef de Mission, Brigadier Peter Assava will lead a team comprising of personnel drawn from the KDF, the National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service.
The CPX is being held to help improve troops capabilities in combating challenges in the ever-changing complex security environment. The joint exercises have been held on rotational basis through all the EAC partners since 2005.
Present during the event was a representative of the High Commissioner of Kenya in Kigali First Counsellor Kahoro Kinaro, Senior Officers, officers and Service Members.
