DEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE, INTELLIGENCE, AND FOREIGN RELATIONS VISITS KENYA NAVY

On 30 November 2024, the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations conducted a familiarization tour of the Kenya Navy. The visit aimed to assess the progress of capital projects under implementation and review the operational capacity of the Kenya Navy.

The committee, chaired by Honourable Nelson Koech, paid a courtesy call to Brigadier Mohammed Shemote, Commander of the Kenya Navy Fleet. Discussions focused on strategies to enhance maritime security and strengthen the Navy’s operational capabilities.

During the visit, the committee received a detailed briefing on the functions, roles, and organizational structure of the Kenya Navy, highlighting its contribution to both national and regional maritime security.
Members toured key capital projects, including infrastructure upgrades, new constructions, and modern equipment acquisitions. These improvements are designed to address evolving security challenges while ensuring the efficient use of public resources.

This visit forms part of the committee’s broader oversight mandate to promote accountability, efficiency, and effective resource management within the Kenya Defence Forces.
