The Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme (DEFMIS), in partnership with Eldoret Regional Hospital (ERH) and Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) medics, organized a medical camp at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mambo Leo, Kisumu County.
The camp was aimed at serving, retired and retiring DEFMIS contributors and beneficiaries living in the Nyanza and Western regions. Attendees received guidance on a range of health topics, including the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, cardiovascular issues, and mental health.
Brigadier Amin Abass, Managing Director of DEFMIS, expressed gratitude to the veterans for their attendance and encouraged all members to prioritize their health by seeking care at affordable facilities. He also acknowledged the support of financial and healthcare partners for providing resources and logistics for the event.
Brigadier (Dr.) Charles Ondego, Chief Medical Officer at Eldoret Regional Hospital, also addressed the retirees, noting that the transition from active service often brings age-related health challenges and highlighted the economic impact of chronic illnesses. He urged members to adopt healthy lifestyles and maintain resilience in facing health challenges.
Brigadier (Dr.) Athanias Odhiambo, Managing Director of Ulinzi Prime Health Service (UPHS), assured members that DEFMIS membership grants free access to quality healthcare at UPHS Level IV and V military facilities.
Retirees and beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the medical services offered by DEFMIS and encouraged current service personnel to join the Scheme.
Collaborating institutions included AAR, Equity Afia, ICEA Lions, Karen Hospital, Synergy, Aga Khan Hospital-Kisumu, Kisumu Specialist, Bana, and Lifecare Hospitals.
