The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, today visited the Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mtongwe, Mombasa County.
The visit aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the Kenya Navy’s operations, organization, and current activities within and beyond Kenya’s maritime borders.
Upon her arrival, CS Tuya was welcomed by Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, who hosted her for discussions in his office.
During the visit, CS Tuya was briefed on the formation of the Kenya Navy, ongoing projects, and the vital role the Navy plays in protecting Kenya’s maritime sovereignty.
The CS commended the Kenya Navy for its achievements, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding Kenya’s territorial waters. She applauded the Navy’s efforts in combating terrorism, piracy, smuggling, and other illegal maritime activities.
“Our territorial waters are a vital resource, and it is essential that we protect them at all costs. I am proud of the work that the Kenya Navy is doing to ensure our security and protect our sovereignty,” stated CS Tuya.
CS Tuya also visited the Kenya Navy Fleet, Kenya Navy Hospital and Kenya Shipyards Limited, where she familiarized herself with their current functions and capabilities. At the hospital, she was briefed on ongoing improvements aimed at enhancing the morale and welfare of soldiers.
The visit was also attended by the Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, Managing Director of Kenya Shipyards Limited, Major General Said Farah, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Kipchirchir Kibiwot, and other senior officers and officers.
