DEFENCE CABINET SECRETARY VISITS KENYA AIR FORCE HEADQUARTERS

The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, visited the Kenya Air Force (KAF) Headquarters in Nairobi County to gain a deeper understanding of the Air Force’s operations, organizational structure, and ongoing missions both within and beyond Kenya’s borders.

Upon arrival, Hon. Tuya was welcomed by Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Fatma Ahmed. The CS was briefed on KAF’s mission, strategic initiatives, and contributions to national and regional security. This included a comprehensive review of the Air Force’s current operations, infrastructure developments, innovation advancements, and the various units stationed at the airbase, a key installation in Kenya’s Air Force defense strategy.

During her visit, CS Tuya interacted with personnel and observed various Air Force operations and training exercises, underscoring the importance of maintaining high operational readiness and capability.

In her address to officers and service members, CS Tuya commended the Kenya Air Force for its steadfast commitment to securing Kenya’s airspace. She emphasized the critical role the Air Force plays in deterring air-based threats and highlighted the importance of the dedicated training and welfare programs that enhance the skills of Air Force personnel.

She acknowledged the role KAF plays as the first responder in times of crisis, such as natural disasters, humanitarian missions, and medical evacuations in remote areas. CS Tuya praised the Air Force’s rapid response capacity, noting their preparedness and professionalism in handling emergencies and safeguarding Kenyan lives.
“Our airspace is a vital asset, and protecting it is crucial to our national sovereignty and security. I commend the Kenya Air Force for its diligence and excellence in ensuring this protection,” stated CS Tuya.

The CS also toured various installations, including the KAF Hangars, Helicopter Simulators, and the Helicopter Assault Wing. She also viewed demonstrations of KAF innovations.

The CS was accompanied by senior officers from Defence Headquarters. This visit signifies a continued effort to strengthen Kenya Air Force’s capabilities and support to its vital role in national defence and regional stability.
