CS DUALE SIGNS MARITIME AGREEMENT BETWEEN KENYA AND DENMARK

Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Aden Duale and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark in Kenya H.E Stephen Schonemann today signed an Implementing Partner Agreement on Maritime Cooperation at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

The Agreement runs between 2024 and 2026 and shall enable the two countries to partner in combating maritime threats among them; piracy, terrorism, and violent extremism.

The CS thanked the Kingdom of Denmark for the enormous support given to Kenya in training and education programs at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) through the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Embakasi. He further observed that Denmark has supported various programs and outreaches conducted by the East African Standby Force (EASF).

Further, the CS informed Amb. Schonemann that, Kenya continues to invest in critical infrastructure to enhance maritime security thereby creating an enabling environment for trade and commerce not only for Kenya but also for other neighbours who rely on Kenya’s seaport. The leaders explored other areas of possible future cooperation including cyber security which they said are of mutual benefit to the citizens of the two States.

Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, Principal Secretary for Defence Mr. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P &L) Major General David Ketter among other senior military officers from the two countries were present during the signing ceremony.
