Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has today held talks with the European Union Special Representative for the Horn of Africa (HoA) Her Excellency Dr. Annette Weber who paid him a courtesy visit at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.
The Special Envoy made a broad security brief on the security situation in the region and the imminent threats of terrorism, violent extremism and organized crimes.
Hon Duale affirmed that, as an anchor State in the region, Kenya remains committed to having a peaceful, stable and secure region in the Horn for shared prosperity.
He maintained Kenya’s commitment to suppress the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab militia in collaboration with other Troops Contributing Countries (TCCs) under the African Union Transition Mission (ATMIS) umbrella.
The CS added that capacity building of Somalia Security Forces (SSF) is on course in preparation for the gradual drawdown of troops from Somalia by December 2024 seamless transition once the troops fully withdraw.
He observed that Somalia shall require continued support even post ATMIS to ensure that the Federal Government of Somalia strengthens all institutions.
