The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Aden Duale today hosted the Austrian Federal Minister for Labour and Economy, His Excellency Dr. Martin Kocher who paid him a courtesy visit at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
The two ministers held bilateral talks where Hon. Duale acknowledged the cordial relations and strong ties the two countries continue to enjoy saying that Austria has been a key trade partner with Kenya and a ready market for Kenya’s flowers, coffee, tea, fruits and vegetables.
He underscored the need for the two countries to advance the already existing strong ties by developing a Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) to guide Kenya -Austria military partnerships.
Hon. Duale observed that there exists huge potential for possible collaboration between the two countries in the fields of military training and education, intelligence sharing, defence industry and technology transfer, military medical services, counter-terrorism and counter-violent extremism as well as research and development.
Further areas of possible collaboration discussed include cyber security, military cultural and sporting activities as well as high-level diplomatic visits.
Present during the meeting were Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Mariru and Vice CDF Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi.
Others include the Managing Director of Defence National Security Industries (DNSI) Major General Bernard Waliaula, Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy at the Defence Headquarters Brigadier Edward Rugendo and other senior officials from the two countries.
