Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale chaired a consultative meeting today with elected leaders from the Uasin Gishu County Government, along with officials from the National Land Commission (NLC), to address the ongoing dispute concerning the Eldoret Military land.
The CS emphasized the military’s commitment to resolving the impasse with legitimate claimants while pursuing legal action against fraudulent individuals, land grabbers, and imposters who are using fake title deeds to lay claim to military-owned land.
He further stated that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is dedicated to maintaining positive relationships with the communities hosting military establishments, recognizing their vital role in the security infrastructure.
“We have received directives from His Excellency, President Dr. William Ruto, to expedite the resolution of this issue. We are pleased with the progress we have made in addressing this stalemate,” remarked the CS.
These sentiments were echoed by Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Mariru, affirming the Ministry’s support for all legal mechanisms aimed at ending land disputes and fostering strong military-civilian relations.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii expressed gratitude to the Ministry’s leadership for their efforts to resolve the long-standing dispute, emphasizing that this initiative will significantly improve relations.
“The case has dragged for long but we are grateful that we are now seeing light at the end of the tunnel. We are grateful for showing leadership and goodwill in bringing this matter to a close,” said the Governor.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Charles Kahariri, Turbo Member of Parliament Hon. Janet Sitienei, NLC Chairperson Mr. Gershom Otachi, and CEO Kabale Tache.
Other notable attendees included Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General David Keter, Chief of Infrastructure Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Chief of Legal Services Brigadier Yvonne Kerubo, and chair of the Adhoc Committee on Lands Brigadier (Rtd) Foustine Sirera, alongside various senior military and county officials.
