The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon Soipan Tuya hosted The United Kingdom Secretary of State for Defence Hon John Healey who paid a courtesy call on her at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
During the bilateral discussions on areas of defence cooperation among the two nations, Hon Tuya noted that Kenya and The United Kingdom (U.K) share longstanding relations and have partnered extensively in the areas of defence, counterterrorism security and peacekeeping training efforts through The International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC).
She also underscored the value of the cooperation resulting in capacity building for Kenya Defence Forces through military initiatives and programs. These include the Kenya-UK Defence Cooperation Agreement which the two leaders assessed to check for its progress.
Hon Healey committed to ensuring continued cooperation in enhancing KDF’s capacity to build its contribution in regional peace and stability owing to Kenya’s unique position as an anchor state in the region.
Also present during the talks were Dr. Patrick Mariru, PS for Defence and Brigadier Samwel Kimani, Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy at Defence Headquarters.
