On March 19, 2025, Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hon. Soipan Tuya reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) commitment to safeguarding Kenya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Appearing before the Senate plenary session chaired by Senate Speaker Rt. Hon. Amason Kingi, CS Tuya addressed inquiries regarding the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) preparedness in defending the nation and their role in internal security management.
During the session, she highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to enhance KDF recruitment through the Defence Council, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the process. She also elaborated on KDF’s support to internal security agencies under Article 241(3)(b) and (c) of the Constitution, emphasizing the success of various joint security operations conducted alongside multi-agency teams.
CS Tuya was accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda, Chief of Operations at the Defence Headquarters Brigadier Rugendo, and other senior Ministry officials.
