Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, hosted an Iftar dinner for Muslim personnel of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the Coast region at the Kenya Navy Mosque, Mtongwe, on 21 March 2025.
The event brought together KDF Muslim faithful and their families as they observed the Holy Month of Ramadan—a period dedicated to fasting, spiritual reflection, worship, kindness, and personal growth. The Iftar dinner, held after sunset, marked the breaking of the fast and provided an opportunity to gather in unity and gratitude.
In his remarks, Major General Otieno expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to join the Muslim community on this significant occasion. He acknowledged the collective effort and coordination that made the event possible, commending those involved in its organization.
“I am honored to be here today and would like to begin by thanking God for granting us this opportunity to come together, exchange knowledge, and celebrate this occasion. I also extend my heartfelt thanks to the Imam and the team for making this gathering possible. Additionally, I am grateful to the family members who joined us,” said Major General Otieno.
He also reflected on insights from the sermon, emphasizing fasting as an act of obedience to Allah’s commands. He noted that both the Quran and the Bible highlight the importance of obeying God, with the promise that following His guidance leads to fulfillment in all areas of life.
The event was a testament to the unity and compassion within the KDF, reinforcing values such as coexistence, discipline, and operational effectiveness. It also underscored the significance of generosity and shared responsibility in uplifting one another.
Among those in attendance were Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Brigadier Mohammed Shemote; Chief of Naval Medical Services, Brigadier (Dr) Justino Muinde; senior officers, officers, service members, and their families.
