CDF CHAIRS NDU-K 8TH REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

On 31st October 2024, General Charles Kahariri, Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) and Chairperson of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) Council, chaired the 8th University Regular Council Meeting at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi. The meeting focused on strategic reviews and key decisions to guide NDU-K’s continued growth and mission in national defense education.

Key agenda items included the Performance Contract for the 2024/25 Financial Year and establishing the Defence Intelligence Academy (DIA) as a new College of NDU-K.

General Kahariri commended the university’s leadership for its dedication to training, capacity building, and research in national security and strategy, encouraging staff to equip students with the knowledge and skills to tackle evolving security challenges.

In highlighting recent achievements, General Kahariri acknowledged the Council’s support, citing the publication of Volume 2 of the NDU-K National Security Journal and the successful hosting of Africa Commandants Conference as significant academic milestones.

Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai announced the upcoming 2nd NDU-K Graduation and Convocation Ceremony in November 2024, to be presided over by Chancellor Dr. William Ruto, President of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

The meeting reaffirmed NDU-K’s commitment to excellence in defense education, further solidifying its role in shaping Kenya’s defense and security landscape.

Among those who attended the meeting included Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda, Service Commanders, and other Council members.
