Commandant Defence Headquarters Camp Administration Unit (DHQ CAU), Brigadier Lawrence Ntoyai, who is also the Chairman of the Defence Forces Boxing Association ( DEFABA) has today 14th March 2023, officially opened the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Boxing Championship (Bora Cup) held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata.
The championships which bring together boxers from across Formations and Units of the Kenya Defence Forces are geared towards fostering esprit de corps as well as serving as an opportunity to recruit new talent into the Kenya Defence Forces Boxing Association.
On the opening day of the 3-day tournament, a total of 12 bouts were played with Moi Airbase and Nairobi Garisson teams showing an early dominance at the elimination stage. Notable players set to step into the ring include the 2022 Africa Boxing Championship Silver medallist Senior Private Samuel Njau, the 2019 All Africa games bronze medalist Lance Corporal Frederick Ramogi among others.
Speaking during the opening ceremony Colonel Ntoyai, expressed his confidence in the boxers, gauging from their performance within and outside the country.
On the same platform the Commandant further appreciated officials for their high standards of preparedness, to ensure rules put in place by the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) are adhered to.
The tournament enters Semi finals on Wednesday, 15th March 2023 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex indoor arena
