CDF ATTENDS MOZAMBIQUE NATIONAL DAY AND ARMED FORCES DAY CELEBRATIONS

On September 25, 2024, Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, participated in the 60th Mozambican National Day celebrations, also known as Revolution Day, in Maputo, Mozambique.

The event commemorates the start of Mozambique’s War of Independence and this year also marked the 60th anniversary of the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique – FADM).

The celebrations, presided over by Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, featured military parades, battle drills, and equipment displays. Distinguished guests from across the continent attended.

The event concluded with the awarding of medals to notable military heroes. As part of the ceremony, General Kahariri laid wreaths at Samora Machel’s tomb and Heroes’ Square in honor of the fallen heroes of the FADM.

In the days following the celebrations, General Kahariri met with Admiral Joaquim Rivas Mangrasse, Chief of the General Staff of the FADM, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, where they discussed further opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

Additionally, General Kahariri paid a courtesy call to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, Ambassador Philip Githiora, at Sommerschield, where they explored possibilities for strengthening ties between Kenya and Mozambique.

Kenya’s relationship with Mozambique holds strategic importance, particularly in the areas of regional security and stability. The bond between the two nations has been further strengthened by Kenya Defence Forces’ humanitarian assistance to Mozambique, notably during the response to Cyclone Idai in 2019.
