CABINET SECRETARIES LEADERSHIP TRAINING

The National Defence University- Kenya (NDU-K), in collaboration with the Executive office of the President, conducted a leadership program for newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries. This program, themed “A New Paradigm Beckons,” took place at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi. IPSTC is a College of NDU-K.

The programme underscores the pivotal importance of the Cabinet in overseeing public affairs, providing a platform for the newly reconstituted Cabinet to cultivate synergy as they embark on their significant roles as Cabinet Secretaries. Further, the programme is designed to equip Cabinet Secretaries with the necessary skills, knowledge, and insights to effectively navigate the complexities of their roles within the Kenyan government.

The program also included contemporary challenges in governance, security, and peacebuilding, reflecting the dynamic nature of the political landscape in Kenya and beyond.

While delivering his opening remarks, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr Felix Koskei stated that the induction process was to equip members with comprehensive information on government operations, constitutional imperatives and the legal administrative, operational and sociopolitical aspects impacting public service delivery.

He added, “The program will build member’ knowledge on fundamental governance framework and the accountability, national values, ethos and ethics as well as deepening understanding of the executive role in managing public affairs.”

Topics covered on day one included Government Business in the Era of e-cabinet, The State of the Economy, an Economic Outlook and Monetary Policy, and Governance and the Law: The Reality of Public Policy, among others.
Present at the induction were Cabinet Secretaries from all Government Ministries, Vice-Chancellor NDU-K, Senior Government Officers, as well as staff of NDU-K.
